Dear fellow GreenShielders,
Thank you for your purpose, passion, and performance this past year. Your work has been the driving force behind the progress we've made to advance our mission of Better Health for All. This year, we came together uniting as One GreenShield to solidify our position as Canada’s only national non-profit health and benefits company, and leading payer-provider.
The highlights and milestones below reflect our transformative year. We know parts of this year were a challenge – such as our work stoppage and some of the changes that uniting as One GreenShield necessitated. At the same time, there were so many accomplishments in 2024 we can all be very proud of as we chart our course for 2025 and beyond.
We’re Disrupting Two Industries
We are disrupting the health and benefits industry with a reimagined patient-first experience that seamlessly integrates coverage and care. Through our innovative payer-provider (“payvider”) model and our industry-leading GreenShield+ platform, we’re improving access, convenience, integration and health outcomes for Canadians.
Insights from our health outcomes and drug trends data have driven solutions that tackle some of Canada’s most pressing health challenges. Chronic disease costs are up 14%, and mental health claims have surged by 132% since 2020. Our response? Proactive programs like chronic disease management, care coordination, and mental well-being support that go beyond treatment to prevent and reduce these trends and continue to build a health and benefits experience unlike any other.
As well, we are disrupting the Social Impact industry through our unique Creating Shared Value (CSV) model. By intertwining our GreenShield Cares and commercial strategies, we are proving that social impact and business growth can work together to make GreenShield an even greater force for good. GreenShield Cares drives our purpose-driven initiatives, turning excess earnings into meaningful action to advance health equity and fill critical gaps in care across Canada.
Our signature Women’s Mental Health initiative addresses systemic inequities and provides tailored mental health support to advance health equity. Through strategic partnerships with community organizations, we co-create culturally appropriate mental health services that enhance our overall offering. We’re The Talk of the Industry
Advisors: We recently hosted a series of 10 Advisor Summits, bringing together hundreds of advisors across the country. Advisors are now recognizing us as more than just a health and dental benefits company. They see us as a leader in innovation and social impact and they refer to our payvider and CSV models as transformative forces in the industry.
Sponsors: Impressed by our new payvider model, over two thirds of new sales starts in our core Group business haves been integrated sales with GS Health and/or GS Administration. We are selling more and impacting more lives because 1+1 truly equals 3. Most notably, sponsors don’t just see us as a health and benefits partner, but their partner in driving better health outcomes for all Canadians. From McDonalds to ATB, clients are reaching out to us to launch new programs tailored to meet the unique needs of their members through GreenShield+, and their communities through GreenShield Cares.
Looking Ahead
As we close 2024 and look ahead to 2025, I’m energized by the possibilities before us. We will be starting the new year with our new legal structure in place. This is big! We will now have the ability to better collaborate as One GreenShield and further advance our strategic plan and social mission. Together, we’re not just shaping the future of health and benefits — we’re building a healthier, more equitable Canada.
Thank you for your contributions this year. I hope the holiday season gives you time to rest, recharge, and celebrate the almost $60 million we have reinvested and the +700,000 lives we’ve positively impacted since launching our strategic plan. We are well on track to reinvest $75M to positively impact over 1 million lives by the end of 2025. Wishing you and your loved ones a joyful and healthy holiday season.
