Here’s what you need to know about your GSC student health and dental plan.
Opt-Out Info
Have alternate equivalent coverage and want to opt-out of your student health and dental plan? Requests can be made for a limited time only. Certain restrictions may apply. Click the link below for more information.

Want to add a spouse or dependent child(ren) to your student health and dental plan? Contact your student union or click the link below.
In-Active Period
You may be in a temporary in-active period while GreenShield collects and updates your enrolment information. Don’t worry - you can still submit paper claims. We will process your claims once your information is updated.
Once the enrolment is complete and the in-active period ends, you can sign up for online services at greenshield.ca/student. Our online member portal provides quick and easy access to:
- Online claim submission
- Your benefit booklet
- Search for a benefit provider
- Search drugs by DIN to check eligibility
- And much more!
Once the in-active period ends, you can even submit claims right from your mobile device. Just download our GSC app. Could it get any easier?
Remember, your GS ID number is your three-letter school code, your student number and “-00” (example: UKC111222333-00).
Here’s a Look at Some of What Your Plan Covers
Your student health and dental plan ensures you can take care of your health and wellbeing during your post-secondary studies by offering a wide range of benefits. Take a look the Schedule of Benefits for the details.
Schedule of Benefits – effective September 1, 2024
HEALTH BENEFITS PLAN (Overall Maximum: $5,000 per covered person per benefit year – excluding Gender Affirmation, Hospital, Prescription Drugs and Vision).
Prescription Drug (Pay Direct Drug Card)
- Prescription drugs: 20% co-pay, plus any dispensing fee charge in excess of $5, per prescription or refill.
- Maximum: $1,000 per benefit year, including HPV Gardasil Vaccine eligible for females from age 13 to 45 and males from age 9 to 26.
Hospital
- Public general hospital or convalescent or rehabilitation hospital – semi-private room, no co-pay.
Medical Items and Services
- 20% co-pay.
- Bra (mastectomy): Reasonable and customary charges.
- Compression Stockings: Reasonable and customary charges.
- Other items and services: Reasonable and customary charges.
- Emergency Transportation: 20% co-pay up to $1,100 per trip.
- Gender affirmation: 0% copay (diagnosis of gender dysphoria from a physician (M.D.) or nurse practitioner is required): Reasonable and customary charges, limited to $10,000 lifetime.
Professional Services
- 20% co-pay.
- $20 per visit up to $300 per benefit year per type of practitioner: Chiropractor, Registered Massage Therapist Rx required, Speech Therapist.
- Naturopath $300 per benefit year.
- Physiotherapist Rx required, up to Reasonable and customary charges.
- Psychologist or MindBeacon Therapist Guided Program or Social Worker/Counsellor or Master of Social Work, Psychotherapist - $1,000 per benefit year combined maximum, including $300 per benefit year for BEACON.
- Holistic Nutritional Consultant: included in the overall combined maximum of $1,000 per benefit year for Psychologist, MindBeacon Therapist Guided Program, Social Worker/Counsellor, Master of Social Work or Psychotherapist.
Accidental Dental
- 20% co-pay. Reasonable and customary charges.
Vision
- $150 every 24 consecutive months based on date of first paid claim.
- Optometric eye exams 20% co-pay: Once every 2 years based on date of first paid claim (every 12 months for covered persons 17 years of age and under).
TRAVEL BENEFIT PLAN
Trip Duration
- 60 days Days per trip.
Maximum Emergency Services
- $5,000,000 per covered person per benefit year.
DENTAL BENEFIT PLAN
Fee Guide
- The current Provincial Dental Association Fee Guide for General Practitioners in the province where services are rendered.
Dental Maximum
- $750 per benefit year.
Basic Services and Comprehensive Basic Services
- 20% co-pay (Basic and Comprehensive Basic Services combined).
ACCIDENTAL DEATH AND DISMEMBERMENT
- $10,000.

Student Assistance Program
- Your Student Assistance Program (SAP) through Inkblot Technologies provides you with immediate and confidential help for any work, health or life concern. Your SAP coverage provides you and your eligible dependents with up to 5 hours of individual counselling and up to 5 hours of couples counselling. You also have access to advisory services including legal, financial, career, health and life transitions.
Inkblot Technologies provides an easy online intake and digital user experience by using their proprietary matching technology to ensure you find the right counsellor based on your clinical needs. To ensure the fit is just right, your first 15 minutes of counselling do not apply to your 5 covered hours.

The MindBeacon Therapist Guided Program™
- As a GSC plan member, you have access to guided digital therapy through MindBeacon. Offered to you and your dependents (age 16 and over), at no out-of-pocket cost to you, the MindBeacon Therapist Guided Program is an effective, easy-to-access way to receive personalized therapy guided by a mental health professional. It’s a fully digital program, so with no face-to-face appointments to schedule and get to, your therapy happens anywhere and anytime that’s comfortable for you. If the MindBeacon Therapist Guided Program is a good fit for you, you can access the program anytime via the web or app using your computer or mobile device. Refer to the Summary of Benefits in your Benefit Plan Booklet for information about any co-pays, deductibles, and maximums that may apply to this program.

Tranquility by Inkblot
- Tranquility by Inkblot is a digital platform that uses internet-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (iCBT) to help plan members and their eligible dependents (age 15+) with mild to moderate anxiety and/or depression take control of their mental health. It includes interactive learning modules, tools, and optional coaching to help develop positive coping strategies and reduce life-disrupting symptoms.
The program is an effective and easy-to-use anxiety and depression management tool, available to GSC plan members and their eligible dependents (age 15+) at a discounted rate and can be accessed on most phones, tablets, and computers. Access Tranquility by Inkblot at www.tranquility.app/gsc. Choose from a self-guided program ($75 plus applicable taxes) or a coach-assisted program ($325 plus applicable taxes)*. The programs are reimbursed subject to existing limitations (co-pays, deductibles, and/or maximums) found in the mental health Paramedical Practitioners section of the Summary of Benefits in your Benefit Plan Booklet.
*Tranquility by Inkblot is currently available for GSC plan members residing in Canada.
